A man was today sentenced by a fast track court to three years in prison for harassing his wife for dowry.

Judge Punem Rajput also imposed a fine of Rs 5500 on Manoj Kumar, who was found guilty under IPC sections 498A (Husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) and 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), government lawyer Ritu Choudhry said.

Victim Gita's father, Bhimsen, had filed a complaint in this regard at the police station concerned.

Manoj used to harass his daughter for dowry, Bhimsen alleged.

Fed up with the torture, she left her in-laws house on December 14, 2008, he said.
