Additional Sessions Judge Anju Baja Chandna sentenced North Delhi resident Mohd Aleem to 14-day prison term, already undergone by him during the trial, and let him off after imposing on him a fine of Rs 10,000, to be paid to shopkeeper Shafiq-Ur-Rehman as compensation.

"Considering the clean antecedents of Mohd Aleem, I sentence him to imprisonment for the period of 14 days already undergone by him and direct him to pay by way of compensation Rs 10,000 to the complainant," the judge said.

According to the prosecution, on July 3 last year Aleem had dumped garbage in front of Shafiq-Ur-Rehman's shop at Sadar Bazaar in North Delhi, resulting in a scuffle between the two.

The prosecution alleged Rehman fell unconscious due to the assault by Aleem, who also tried to strangulate him.

Aleem, on the other hand, had claimed he was innocent and had been falsely implicated in the case.

After considering the nature of victim's injuries, the court held that Aleem had no intention to kill Rehman.

The court, however, held him guilty of assaulting the complainant and causing simple injuries to him.
