A local court today sentenced a man to rigorous imprisonment for three years for sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl last year.
Additional Sessions Judge Ajanta Sarangi while convicting and pronouncing the jail term for Sambhu Singh (30) also slapped a fine of Rs 1,000 on him.
In case of default in payment of the fine, the man would have to undergo an additional 15 days jail term.
Singh, who hailed from Dhobasila village of Nilgiri, had committed the offence on the minor girl, who belonged to the same village, when she had gone out to pluck flowers on September 7 last year.
He was arrested after the father of the girl lodged an FIR.
