A local court today sentenced a man to life imprisonment for killing his 16-year-old daughter last year.
On April 3, 2013 Rajit Ram, a resident of Kapoorpur Gondiyanpuwa under Kotwali city police station, had lodged a complaint that his daughter had been lured away by a villager, prosecution sources said.
A week later, Ram informed the police that the body of the girl has been found in a pond and later the post-mortem report had confirmed her death due to strangulation.
During investigation, the needle of suspicion turned towards the father as it appeared to be a case of honour killing, the sources said, adding that during sustained interrogation he admitted to the crime.
Additional sessions judge Sanjay Kumar, after hearing the case in detail, sentenced the father of the deceased to life imprisonment.
