A local court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment till death for raping and killing a two-year-old girl in 2012.
Special Judge of Scheduled Cast and Scheduled Tribe court of Baran district, Kishan Chand Gujjar, held Safar Mohammad alias Golu (25) guilty of the crime yesterday, Special Public Prosecutor (SPP), Tejendra Sharma, said today.
Terming the crime as "heinous and unpardonable", the court ruled that the convict shall not be able to avail any parole or relaxation in his sentence from the Centre or state government.
In 2012, Mohammad raped and murdered the minor girl in Lanka colony area of Baran city and threw her body nearby a temple premises.
The incident sparked protest from the locals leading to tension in the city.
As many as 20 witnesses were produced during the trial that lasted around four years.
