A 28-year-old woman was killed after her husband allegedly set her ablaze at their house in Telangana's Ranga Reddy district, police said today.

The incident took place on May 16 at Somangurthi village in Puduru mandal of the district, but came to light today after the brother of woman and neighbours brought the matter to the notice of police after foul smell emanated from the house, they said.

Labourer U Shekar, who used to have frequent quarrels with his wife Sunitha over some family disputes, allegedly set her on fire after locking her in a room on and fled the village, Chengomul police station sub-inspector Mohd Khalil said, based on a complaint lodged by the brother of the deceased.

"A case of murder has been registered and efforts are on to nab the absconding accused," the SI said.
