The injured identified as Ananta Palei, an employee of a private sponge iron company at Angul, was passing through the area yesterday when a criminal fired at another person which inadvertently hit him, the police said.
He was undergoing treatment at the district headquarter hospital here, the sources said.
The criminal fled the scene after the incident and a manhunt launched in the area to nab him.
