In a suspected case of honour killing, family members of a woman allegedly shot dead her husband and dumped his body in a jungle as they were not happy with her marrying against their wishes, police said today.

Yogesh (40), from Muzaffarnagar, was in a relationship with the woman from Bhawana area and last year they got married in a local court, SP (Rural) M S Beg said.

The woman's family was unhappy over this and allegedly called him to their home on Tuesday and shot him dead, after which they dumped his body in a jungle in Sathla village, Beg said.

On information from villagers, Yogesh's body was found yesterday and identified from the cell phone found in his pocket, he said.

The deceased's family was informed, following which his uncle lodged an FIR against the brother of the woman and one other person, he said, adding that a case has been registered against the family members of the girl.

The accused are absconding and efforts are on to trace them, he said.
