An abduction bid went horribly wrong for the perpetrators, when they accidentally shot dead one of their accomplices this morning in Outer Delhi's Narela area, police said today.

26-year-old Praveen was shot at during a scuffle between his three other accomplices and a businessman, Ramesh Kumar (42), whom they were trying to abduct around 8 am today, police said.

"Ramesh was on his way to work when the armed assailants including Praveen interjected his car and asked him to alight. A scuffle ensued during which one of the abductors opened fire which pierced through Praveen's head, killing him on the spot," a police official said.

The other three abductors fled from the spot leaving Praveen behind in a pool of blood, they said.

Ramesh, who resides in Narela, told the police that he had no personal enmity with anyone. A case has been registered at Narela police station of Outer Delhi.

"The other three assailants have been identified and a manhunt is on to nab them. We are yet to verify the criminal background of the deceased," the official said.
