Man shot dead, nephew injured

A man was killed and his nephew injured when unidentified assailants shot at them near Shahdara in north-east Delhi, police said today.

The incident occured last night when the deceased 45-year-old Shakir Ali, his nephew, Kaamil (30), and a relative Anees (30) were returning from another relative's place at Krishna Nagar near Shahdara in their car.

On reaching near Shyam Lal College in Shahdara, they were waylaid by four unidentified assailants on two motorcycles and fired upon, a police official said.

Upon hearing the sound of the firing, a PCR van nearby rushed to the spot and started chasing the assailants, but they managed to flee.
 

The victims were rushed to a hospital where Shakir was declared brought dead and Kaamil was admitted with severe injuries. Anees was sitting on the back seat and did not sustain any injuries, the official said.

Shakir's body has been sent for post mortem and Kaamil's condition was reported to be out of danger.

A case has been registered with Shahdara police station under relevant sections of the IPC, police said, adding that it is suspected to be a case of personal enmity.
