A man allegedly claimed an insurance sum of Rs 2.40 lakh on his son's name by declaring that he was dead, although he was alive, forcing the private insurance firm to lodged a complaint, police said today.
TATA AIA Life Insurance has filed a complaint of a false claim application, according to which Rakesh Kulshrestha (48) had declared that his son Robin (24) had died of jaundice in December last year, and claimed an insurance sum of Rs 2.40 lakh in March, Morena City Superintendent of Police Manjeet Chawla told PTI.
Kulshrestha had furnished required documents like death certificate, record of crematorium, certificates from local corporator and doctor stating that Robin was dead, he said, adding when the insurance company inquired into the claim, they found that Robin was alive.
The company said they found father-son duo were lodged in a jail since April 6 in connection with an abatement of suicide case.
"We have taken up the matter and further investigation is underway," Chawla added.
