Man, son sentenced to 3.5 yrs in jail for possessing liquor

A special excise court in Gaya today sentenced a man and his son to three-and-half years imprisonment for possessing country-made liquor.

Special Excise Court Judge and Additional District and Sessions Judge Sachidanand Singh held Ram Pravesh Singh and his son Guddu Singh guilty under the Excise Act for possessing country-made liquor.

The court sentenced also fined them Rs 60,000 each.

Additional Public Prosecutor Ramesh Singh said that police found a large quantity of country-made liquor in October 11, 2011 from Ram Pravesh Singh's residence at Palkiya village under the Sherghati police station of the district.

The Bihar government imposed a prohibition in the state in April 2016 under which sale, consumption, manufacturing, trading, storage, transportation and possession of liquor is banned.
