A man and his son were shot and hacked to death near Madhyabele village under Jainagar police station area of South 24 Parganas district today, the police said.
Nimai Sardar (55) and his son Biswanath (25) were going to Jainagar in a mortorcycle when assailants came in another motorbike and fired at them.
When they fell down from the two-wheeler, the miscreants hacked them with sharp weapons killing them on the spot and fled, the police said.
The reason behind the double murder was yet to be ascertained.
Local people protested for sometime against the killings.
