A 28-year-old man allegedly killed his wife before committing suicide here, police said today.
The incident came to light this morning when the woman's father came visiting at her house in Dhanor chawl of Sambhaji Nagar area, Senior Police Inspector V C Dolas of Vitthalwadi police station told PTI.
The couple-- Sachin Laxman Shinde and
Surekha(26)--which got married two years ago had come to stay in the locality six months back.
According to police, they frequently fought over Sachin's drinking habit and this might have been the immediate provocation for the incident.
The woman was found strangled with an 'Odhni' (stole) while the husband was found hanging from the ceiling by Surekha's father, police said.
The husband had a printing press while the wife worked in a studio at Dombivili and used to visit her parents everyday on her way back home, they said, adding that when she did not turn up yesterday, her father came visiting her this morning.
The bodies have been sent for postmortem, police said, adding that a case has been registered under Section 302(murder) of the IPC following the murder of the woman
Also, a case of accidental death has been registered following suicide by the husband, they said.
