Man succumbs to burns a day after self-immolation

A 52-year old man, who set himself ablaze at the collectorate here over property dispute with his family members, succumbed to burns at a hospital today.

Mariaappan, who caused a flutter at the collectorate by his extreme act yesterday, was admitted to the Government Rajaji Hospital in a serious condition by police personnel present.

He died today without responding to treatment, police said.

Mariappan, a cook, had drinking habit and hence his family members did not divide the property in order to protect his interest. However he had insisted on dividing the property and was frustrated when his mother gave a complaint to the Police against him.
 

Mariappan gave a counter complaint at the collectorate here but frustrated over 'inaction, he decided to end his life.
