Man suffers burn injuries during attempt to set him afire

A 21-year-old man suffered severe burn injuries on his hands after two unidentified persons allegedly poured petrol on him and tried to set him on fire in east Delhi's New Ashok Nagar area today.

According to a complaint by the victim, Saurabh, the incident took place this afternoon close to the police station at New Ashok Nagar when he was walking in a lane a bike-borne duo waylaid him, a police official said.

They allegedly poured petrol on him and then tried to set him on fire before fleeing the scene, the official said, adding, the victim had been staying at his friend's residence here since the past two days.
 

A case was registered and investigation taken up. However, CCTV grabs obtained from the spot have so far not revealed the presence of bike-borne persons in the area, he said.

Police are questioning locals but they are yet to get any major leads, the official added.
