Man trampled to death by elephants

One person was trampled to death by a herd of wild elephants at a village near Sonai Rupai Wildlife Sanctuary under Misamari police station in Sonitpur district, a forest official said today.

The pachyderms killed Raja Basumatari (22) at Amlaiguri village near the sanctuary last night, beat officer Gopal Deka said.

The herd of about 30 elephants were damaging crops and dwellings of the people living between Sonai Rupai and Gabharu-Kalamati area, Deka said.
