Alleging that his grievance related to a land dispute was not redressed, a man tried to immolate himself today at the District Magistrate office here, the police said.
The incident took place at the collectorate this morning when Sripal (about 48), a resident of Bhaulia village sprinkled kerosene oil on himself to set himself ablaze, a police official said.
Timely intervention by the policemen deployed there stopped him from taking the step, the official claimed.
The man later said that he was under depression due to a land dispute in his village and as his grievance was not heard anywhere he wanted to immolate himself, he added.
Police has detained the accused and are probing the matter.
