An Indian passenger was arrested by Customs at the international airport here for allegedly trying to smuggle in gold bars worth Rs 11.42 lakh from Saudi Arabia.

The passenger, identified as Abdul Kadar Kunji, had concealed four gold bars, weighing 466 grams and valued at Rs 11.42 lakh, in his luggage, a customs official said today.

The accused landed in Mumbai from Riyadh on a Jet Airways flight on Tuesday.

The accused passed through the green channel without declaring the gold in his possession but was intercepted by the officials on suspicion.

Only those passengers who have nothing to declare can pass through the green channel.

Kunji was subsequently arrested under the relevant sections of the Customs Act and gold bars were recovered.
