A 45-year-old man and his two minor children today drowned while taking a bath in a river in Meghnagar area of the district here, the police said.

Sub-inspector of Meghnagar police station Ashfaq Khan said Manoj Sikarwar (45), his son Bhaskar (15), and daughter Bhumi (12), drowned in the Anas River around 11.30 am.

Sikarwar, a resident of Meghnagar, went for a picnic with his family on the banks of the river, about eight kilometers from their town, he said.

Khan said that the boy and the girl were trapped in the current of the river and started drowning while taking a bath.

After seeing his son and daughter drowning, Sikarwar tried to save them but he drowned.

Other family members present there raised an alarm and called the local villagers who subsequently fished out the bodies of Sikarwar and his children.

"We have registered a case under section 174 of the CrPC and the bodies have been sent for post-mortem," the sub- inspector said.
