Man wanted in 59 criminal cases arrested

A man, alleged to be a habitual offender and involved in at least 59 criminal cases including murder, robbery, was arrested today, police said.

The accused, identified as Shamshuddin alias Shamshu Maharaj, was nabbed from Paschim Vihar area of West Delhi around 8 AM here today following a tip-off.

Police was on his heels after he along with his five associates had allegedly attacked one Naushad, a resident of Uttam Nagar in West Delhi and his friend Naushad Ali, resulting in the former's death in April this year.

The accused allegedly wanted to eliminate Naushad, who shares his first name with the complainant Naushad Ali, for demanding money from his friend Gajjan Singh for plying his vehicle in the Uttam Nagar area, they said.
 

Gajjan Singh and Shamshuddin had hatched the conspiracy under the influence of alcohol and executed the crime along with four other friends, Shamshuddin is said to have confessed during investigation.

"On the fateful day, the group caught Naushad at D-Block, Shiv Vihar chowk, Uttam Nagar and started beating him mercilessly. When he tried to run, he was caught hold by them and they hurled bricks and stabbed him with knives," said Additional Commissioner of Police (West) Ranvir Singh.

Shamshuddin was evading his arrest and taking shelter at different places in Delhi since the incident, he said.
