Man wanted in unsuccessful abduction bid arrested

A man who had allegedly made a unsuccessful attempt to abduct a businessman in north Delhi's Narela area in June last year during which one of the kidnapper was shot dead, has been arrested, police said today.

30-year-old Amit alias Vicky was arrested from Mukarba Chowk by a team led by North West DCP Dinesh Kumar Gupta, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime), Ravindra Yadav said.

Amit, along with four associates -- Praveen, Arun, Vijay and Raja -- had planned to abduct Ramesh Chand Garg, a harware businessman from Shivaji Nagar in Narela from his shop on June 17, 2014.

An scuffle broke between them during the abduction bid in which one of the kidnappers fired shot at Garg but the bullet hit another kinapper named Praveen, who died on the spot, police said.
 

An FIR was registered in this connection for murder and other relevant sections of IPC and Arms Act in this connection at Narela police station.

During interrogation Amit revealed that he and his associates Praveen, Arun, Vijay and Raja had planned to abduct Garg for a ransom of Rs 50 lakh.

Three accused in the case were already arrested and only Amit had been evading arrest and was declared Proclaimed Offender by the Rohini Court on December 3, 2014, he added.
