Man washed away in flood triggered by wall collapse

One person was killed in floods triggered by a wall collapse of a power house storage in Khatima town of Udham Singh Nagar district in Uttarakhand today.

Sadilal, an employee of UJVNL, could not escape the floods triggered by the wall collapse of Lohia Head Power House storage and was washed away in the flowing waters, Udham Singh Nagar District Magistrate Pankaj Kumar Pandey told PTI.

Sadilal's body was retrieved and after post mortem, it was handed over to his family, the DM said.

Few houses were damaged due to the floods in Lohia Head Power House colony and nearby villages, but the situation had returned to normal after the water flowed out, he said.
 

State Chief Minister Harish Rawat ordered an investigation into the incident and also directed all power houses to submit a safety audit.

Rawat also announced a compensation of Rs 1 lakh to the victim's family.

As many as 75 families affected by the flood have been paid a compensation of Rs 8,000 and arrangements for food and shelter have also been done.
