Man who escaped from lock-up held again

One of the two detainees who escaped from a lock up nearly a week ago after being detained in connection with two cases of burglary here was arrested again today, police said.

"Srinagar police achieved a major breakthrough when it succeeded in re-arresting one of the burglars who fled from police custody during the intervening night of March 14-15," a police spokesperson said.

Tariq Ahmad Mathanji, a resident of Pamposh Colony locality of Noorbagh was re-arrested while efforts are on to nab his associate Mohammad Ramzan Sheikh of Khudwani village of Kulgam district, he said.

The duo fled from the police lock-up at M R Gunj police station, leading to suspension of four police officials for "negligence".
