In a suspected case of honour killing, a 24-year-old man, who had married a Dalit woman, succumbed to his injuries here after being allegedly stabbed by his in-laws last week, police said today.

Shyam Kumar Arora, who belonged to the Punjabi community, had been living with his wife in a rented room in Bank Colony for the last two months. The couple got married six months ago against the wishes of his in-laws, police said.

Arora was allegedly stabbed on July 15 by his wife's brother and her maternal uncle who had come to their home with a few other men. He died at a local hospital yesterday.

"When she went inside the kitchen to prepare tea, her brother along with others attacked Shyam with knives and injured him seriously.

"He was immediately taken to a private hospital with the help of neighbours," a police official said.

Sahil, the brother-in-law, and Pawan, the uncle, have been arrested. Three more persons have been booked by the police.

Sahil, Pawan and three more persons have been booked under different sections of IPC including murder, trespassing, voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons and the Arms Act, police said.
