Owner of a guest house in Goa's Pernem who allegedly raped a Russian national surrendered before a local court today after evading arrest for six days.

"James D'Souza has surrendered before Judicial Magistrate First Class in Pernem this morning. We were given his custody at noon," inspector Sanjay Dalvi attached to Pernem police station, told PTI.

The 25-year-old Russian woman had alleged that she was raped by James at his guest house on April 28.

In the complaint filed with Pernem police station, the victim alleged that James entered with master key of the room and raped her at 4.30 AM while she was asleep.

The accused went missing since the complaint was lodged against him.

"We will be producing him before the court again to get the remand," Dalvi said.

Goa tourism minsiter Dilip Parulekar had on Monday said police's failure to nab the accused was a shame for the state which will project a negative image in the tourism circle.

He had also said that he would be writing to Home department asking police to expedite the investigations.
