Man who stole Rs 8 lakh from employer arrested

A labourer, who allegedly stole Rs eight lakh from his employer in Chawri Bazar area here to repay a home loan, has been arrested, police said today.

Accused Manoj, 28, was employed by trader Prashant Jain and worked at his godown at Kinari Bazar in the area for nearly a decade, a senior police official said.

The theft had allegedly taken place on the night of June 14 and Manoj was absconding since then, following which an FIR was registered at the Kotwali, said Ravindra Yadav, Joint Commissioner (Crime) of Police.

The accused was arrested by a Crime Branch team near Kashmere Gate ISBT and an amount of Rs eight lakh, two cheque books with signed blank cheques and an Aadhar card of Jain was recovered from his possession, Yadav said.
 

During interrogation, he admitted to committing the theft and told police that he had purchased a house at Guru Nanak Dev colony in Bhalsawa Dairy area where he lived with his family since 2011, the officer said.

Manoj said he had taken a loan at high interest rate for the house and had planned to steal the cash of his employer to overcome his financial hardships, according to police.
