Man whose celebratory rounds killed groom arrested

Police today arrested a man whose celebratory rounds had killed a bridegroom here, officials said.

The accused, Ramchandra, reported to be a close friend of groom Sunil Verma had fled the area after the tragic casualty.

Verma was shot dead at his own wedding during celebratory firing in Rampur Sutehra village under Neemgaon police station.

The person firing the shot fled the scene after his bullet hit the groom identified as Sunil Verma (26) of Hajipur in Sitapur district, Neemgaon kotwali in-charge SS Singh had said.

"An FIR in this regard implicating Ramchandra was lodged by the groom's father," he had said.

The incident took place when the 'dwarachar' rituals were being performed. One of the 'baratis' started firing with his pistol.

 

Reports said the 'barati' who was later identified as Ramchandra was highly inebriated and his shot hit the groom Sunil in his chest. Pandemonium prevailed following injury to the groom. Sunil in a critical condition was rushed to a local hospital where he was declared brought dead.
