Man, wife held for smuggling gold at Delhi airport

A man and his wife have been arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle into the country gold valued at about Rs 42 lakh at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport here.

The accused were intercepted on their arrival from Bangkok yesterday.

During their personal and baggage search, customs officers recovered gold rings, three gold chains and 11 gold rods crudely given the shape of 'kadas' (bangles), weighing 1.4 kg and having a market value of Rs 42.43 lakh, according to a statement issued by the customs today.

Both the accused have been arrested and the gold seized, it said.
