Alleging that the police has become a silent spectator to atrocities against Congress workers, senior state Congress leader Manas Bhuniya today sought intervention of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to ensure protection to his partymen.

"May I expect that you will ensure the expected action from the administrative authority including SP of Paschim Medinipur for peaceful democratic functioning for all political parties in our district and in our Sabang block?" Bhuniya said in a letter to the Chief Minister.

He alleged that the SP of West Midnapore district has given oral direction to all police stations that "everyone should be deaf and dumb to any incident against any other political party worker other than the ruling Trinamool."

Bhuniya also alleged that this situation has been continuing for the last two years since the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
