Carriage Repair Workshop at Mancheswar under East Coast Railway has emerged as the most productive unit among all the 45 workshops of Indian Railways.

Among all parameters of efficiency of a workshop, like work output in terms of outturn of coaches and their overhauling, Mancheswar unit in Odisha has beaten all other workshops in productivity and efficiency, a release by the workshop said.

In November 2013, the Mancheswar unit recorded the highest coach outturn of 153 coaches. Efficiency in overall coach outturn has gone up by 38 per cent, the release by the workshop said adding that air-conditioned coaches have also seen an increase in outturn by 24 per cent.

Its standard capacity per month as per Railway Board norms is outturn of 100 coaches including 10 AC coaches per month.

The achievement has been recorded despite the fact that this Workshop has the lowest staff strength among all workshops, it said.

Mancheswar Carriage Repair Workshop which turned out its first coach in 1983, has been awarded the ISO 9001:2008 Certificate in August 2013 for its upgraded Quality Management System.

The workshop is under capacity upgradation and its machineries and plant infrastructure were being strengthened.
