Manga "One Piece" sets Guinness record

The popular Japanese manga series "One Piece" by a cartoonist was today officially listed in Guinness World Records as the most published comic series by a single author till date.

Roughly 320,866,000 copies of Eiichiro Oda's cartoon was published in 77 volumes by Shueisha Inc. At the end of last year.

Yoshihisa Heishi, the magazine's editor in chief, received the Guinness certificate on behalf of Oda at a ceremony in Tokyo, Kyodo news agency reported.

The cartoonist said in a statement that he hopes to continue producing a work that matches the significance of the record.

The cartoon's story centres on the adventures of a 17-year-old boy Monkey D Luffy, its main character, who dreams of being the king of pirates as he travels the seas with his friends in search of the treasure called "One Piece."
 

The series began in the publisher's Weekly Shonen Jump comic magazine in 1997.
