: Mangaluru Customs Commissionerate has achieved revenue collection at a recordhigh of Rs 1,648.27 crore, showing an over 21 per cent increase compared to revenue in 2015-16, during its 20th anniversary.
In the last eight years, the Commissionerate's revenue had gone up by 320 per cent, a Customs release said.
Trade facilitation initiatives taken by the department over the past year include inter alia SWIFT (Single Window Interface for Facilitating Trade), unaccompanied baggage module in Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) and Authorised Economic Operator (AEO).

On the passenger facilitation at MangaluruInternational Airport last year, out of thetotal passengers, 97.62 per cent of them opted for green channel, the release said.
Customs officers at MIA detected 152 smuggling cases valued over Rs 5.45 crore last year.
Of these, 22 cases were of smuggling of gold in various modes and forms of concealment, totally weighing 11.60 kg and valued at Rs 3.44 crore.

Inthe remaining 114 cases, officers seized 1,737 cartons offoreign made cigarettes, 13.94 kg of tobacco and 1,400 pouches of gutka, totally valued at Rs 44.48 lakh, which were attemptedto be smuggled into the country during 2016-17.
The department has also mopped up revenue of Rs 7.46 crore by disposing of seized and confiscated goods, the release said.
