Delhi Metro Managing Director Mangu Singh today reviewed the progress of construction of Kochi Metro.

Singh was accompanied by several top officials and work contractors of the Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL).

Amid complaints of delay in construction activities, Singh, who visited the metro work sites this morning, instructed contractors to augment their resources to speed up the work of metro stations and a depot at Muttom.

Singh's Kochi visit came weeks after Chief Minister Oommen Chandy met Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu in New Delhi and sought his intervention to expedite the construction activities of the Kochi Metro, KMRL sources said.

The Chief Minister is keen to complete the first reach of the project early next year.

The DMRC MD, who held meeting with top KMRL officials including M D Elias George, decided to organise Project Steering committee meetings more frequently to monitor the work more closely.

Singh also discussed the progress of the Kochi Metro works in a separate meeting with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation's (DMRC) Principal Advisor E Sreedharan here.

While DMRC is responsible for executing the works of Kochi Metro Rail Project as the executing agency, KMRL exercises appropriate financial and technical oversight over the project's execution.

The recent strike by quarry owners had hit the civil works from Aluva to the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kaloor.
