The police has launched a manhunt for an autorickshaw driver who drove a teenage girl to an isolated spot at midnight, after which he allegedly stripped and molested her, a police official said here today.
Police sub-inspector A C Patil of the Manickpur police station under Vasai division told PTI that the girl who works as a maid servant was returning home at about 11.30 pm on July 15.
She boarded a rickshaw with registration number MH 04 2612, to return home and when the vehicle reached Umela Gate, the driver diverted the vehicle towards Mithaghar.
Realising his intentions, the girl jumped out of the rickshaw and ran for her life. The accused chased her, pinned her down to the marshy land on the roadside near the creek, tore her cloths and molested her, the police complaint filed by the girl on Thursday stated.
The police has registered an offence under Section 354 and Section 354 (b) of the Indian Penal Code against the unidentified autorickshaw driver, the police said and added that no arrest is made so far in connection with the offence.
