Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar will discuss with Prime Minister Narendra Modi tomorrow on issues related to economic developments of the state and retaining of the special category status for all north-eastern states, state government officials said today.

Sarkar today left for Delhi and would meet the Prime Minister tomorrow.

Earlier the Chief Minister told reporters that the North Eastern states would face development constraints if the status was withdrawn, as the states were given the special category status in view of their backwardness, hilly composition and remoteness.

Chief Ministers of the eight NE states, irrespective of their political affiliations, had earlier discussed the matter and expressed concern over the Centre's announcement to withdraw the status.

The forum of the Chief Ministers of the region also drafted a common memorandum jointly and submitted to the Prime Minister.
