Manikya kings' old haveli opened for tourists

"The 250-year-old Purana Haveli, which was the royal residence of the Tripura kings was renovated recently and converted into a museum of Tripura's history, culture and heritage was today opened for tourists," said the Chairman of Tripura's Industries Development Corporation, Pabitra Kar.

Kar, also an MLA who hails from Khayerpur area where the haveli is situated, said the government was trying to develop the area as a new tourist spot and a budget of Rs four crore has been earmarked for it.

He said, the seven-day-long Kharchi festival, the traditional festival of the tribals of the state who constitute one third of the population, would begin in Khayerpur tomorrow.

 

Kharchi is the biggest festival in the state after Durga Puja.

He said, the Purana Haveli, which was built in 1770, is now an address for the researchers too who wants to gather information about the history of the state.
