Manipur bandh to protest against alleged encroachment

A 24-hour Manipur bandh has been called from midnight tomorrow to protest against alleged land encroachment by Nagaland at Manipur's boundary with its neighbour at Dzuko Valley in Senapati district.

A press release to this effect was issued by the Committee for Koziirii-Dzuko Land Boundary Resolution (KDLBR) in association with Mao Council (MC) and Civil Society organisations of Mao area of Senapati district district yesterday.

Meanwhile, Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh while attending a function to mark Rajiv Gandhi's 24th death anniversary today at Congress Bhavan, said "Dzuko valley is Manipur's land". He also said that his government would take up this boundary issue soon with the Centre and Nagaland government once the Autonomous District Council (ADC) elections in the hill areas were over in June.
 

Supporting the bandh called against land encroachment by Nagaland at Dzuko valley, in a joint press conference organised by United Committee Manipur (UCM) and All Manipur United Club Organisation (AMUCO) last night at UCM office here, the president of UCM Elangbam Johnson said Manipur government had failed to take up any positive action to safequard the territorial integrity of Manipur.
