Actor Mike Connors, famous for playing detective Joe Mannix in the 1960-70s show "Mannix" has passed away. He was 91.

Connors died on Thursday in California's Tarzana, reported Variety.

According to his son-in-law Mike Condon, the veteran was diagnosed a week ago with leukaemia.

Connors won a Golden Globe for his performance as the strong, agile investigator, who in the typical detective show style, was inclined to do things his own way and often got beat up in the process.

He had received four Emmy nominations for the same show, which ran for eight seasons from the year 1968 to 1975.

The Armenian-American actor also was recognizable for three other series, including "Tightrope", in which he starred as an undercover agent infiltrating organized crime, "Today's FBI", in which he played an FBI supervisor, and the syndicated series "Crimes of the Century", which he hosted.

He was most currently seen in 2007 when he made a guest appearance on "Two and a Half Men".

Connors is survived by his wife Mary Lou, daughter Dena, and granddaughter Cooper.
