Manoj, Shreevats shine as Bengal breeze past

Skipper Manoj Tiwary blasted his way to a 48-ball-62 while opener Shreevats Goswami hit 70 as Bengal comfortably beat Goa by 6 wickets in a group D match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, here today.

Put into bat, Goa managed 235 for 9 in 50 overs with Saurabh Bandekar (62), Reagan Pinto (55) and Sagiun Kamat (55) making useful contributions. Veteran speedster Ashok Dinda scalped three for 40.

However, Bengal made short work of the target, knocking off the runs with 52 balls to spare at the at the Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Ground.

The foundation of the Bengal victory was laid by Sayan Sekhar Mondal (54) and Goswami. They added 116 runs for the opening stand. Sayan dropped anchor facing 76 balls. He hit five boundaries. Shreevats was the more attacking of the two hitting 11 fours in 77 balls.
 

But it was the Bengal captain, who took the game away with eight boundaries and two sixes. Bengal got four points from the match.

Brief scores: Goa 235/9 in 50 overs (Saurabh Bandekar 62, Reagan Pinto 55, Sagun Kamat 55, Ashok Dinda 3/40, Sayan Ghosh 2/54). Bengal 238/4 in 41.2 overs (Manoj Tiwary 62 no, Sayan Sekhar Mondal 54, Shreevats Goswami 70). Bengal beat Goa by 6 wickets. Points: Bengal 4; Goa 0.
