Opposition SAD today accused Punjab Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal of trying to befool people on the Cash Credit Limit (CCL) debt issue as well as farm loan waiver.
In a statement here, former minister Sikander Singh Maluka said it was strange that Badal was asking the SAD to get the Rs 31,000 cr CCL-related debt waived from the Centre without making a similar request to the state finance minister.
"Manpreet Badal during a meeting with Union finance minister Arun Jaitley last year had supported the SAD's stand on this issue.

"He had stated that there was a principal amount of Rs 12,500 cr pending against Punjab as part of the gap between the money received for food grain procurement and expenditure incurred by the state in procuring the same," he said.
"He had accepted that there was an interest quotient of Rs 18,500 cr on this amount. He did not make any appeal to waive this himself, but is now asking the SAD to do this," Maluka said.
Maluka's remarks came after Manpreet hit out at the SAD, accusing them of leaving the state with a "massive debt" and had asked them to stage sit-in in front of the prime minister's office to bring some relief for the debt- ridden farmers.
