The Mantalai tourist resort in Udhampur district will be developed under public-private partnership (PPP) mode, funds for which have been approved under the 12th Plan period.

This was announced in the Legislative Council by Minister of State for Industries and Commerce, Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo, who said the decision to this effect was taken in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

Mantalai houses Aparna Ashram of Dhirendra Brahmachari, who was the Yoga mentor of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

Kichloo said that the property of Aparna Ashram, except the land, was taken over by the Patnitop Development Authority in December 2009 and a sum of Rs 14.63 lakh has been spent on its maintenance since then.

He said a detailed proposal is being prepared with the help of a Delhi-based private consultancy firm engaged by the Central Tourism Ministry as the state-level project management agency for projects to be sanctioned during 12th Five year Plan for the state.
