Several brothel owners on GB Road here today appeared before the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW), which had summoned them on September 7 to establish their ownership details.

In a statement, the commission said today that details of other owners who failed to appear before it have been given to the Delhi police to ask them to come to the commission.

Still if the brothel owners do not appear, the commission will then recommend the arrest warrants be issued against them, it said.

Seeking closure of brothels on the GB Road, the commission had issued summons to 125 owners asking them to appear before it.

The rights body received the details of the owners from various agencies but was provided different names for the same brothels which made it difficult to identify the real owners.

The brothel owners were asked to appear with their original identity and address proofs.

Summons to those owners, who refused to receive them, were pasted on the walls of the brothels, an official said.

Earlier, the commission had constituted a committee under DCW chairperson Swati Maliwal which also comprised senior officials of the Delhi Police, North MCD, District Magistrate, Delhi Jal Board, Fire Department and representatives of prominent NGOs.
