A large number of professionals, having around ten years of work experience, would look at moving out after at least two years at their current employment, says a survey.

About 52 per cent of the total number of mid-career professionals (those with 1-10 years of work experience) would consider moving to another job within two years, according to a survey by professional networking site LinkedIn.

Besides, nearly a quarter (23 per cent) of the same group said they would stay in their current job for two years before asking for a promotion.

In comparison, 82 per cent of students and professionals with less than one year experience expect a promotion within two years of working, while 64 per cent would consider changing jobs in the same timeframe.

As per the survey, higher pay, better career opportunities and more recognition would compel mid-career professionals to stay in their current jobs.

In India, 63 per cent mid-career professionals ranked better career opportunities and higher salaries as most important factors to keep them in the current job.

Another 40 per cent said more recognition at work place would keep them in the jobs.

"Our study shows that mid-career professionals are in a great hurry to reach the top and are willing to work longer hours for it, which is consistent with the aspirational nature of LinkedIn's member base," LinkedIn India country manager Nishant Rao said.

"That said, it was heartening to also see this same audience attach meaningful value to greater recognition and learning opportunities which means that employers who invest in building employee-first cultures and strong employer brands will be more successful in retaining their top talent despite a competitive hiring environment," Rao added.

For Asia Pacific region, the survey findings showed that 36 per cent of the mid-career professionals would work an average of 41-50 hours a week.

In this group, a large number are in Singapore (49 per cent), Hong Kong (49 per cent) and India (32 per cent).

A majority of such professionals in Australia said, they work an average of 36-40 hours a week

Overall, the respondents across all experience levels in India were happier with their work-life balance when compared with the overall figures, the survey said.
