A joint team of district police and special task force was despatched as a part of the anti-Maoist drive that busted a temporary Maoist camp in the forest area between Jatwar and Karkabeda villages, about 45 kms from the district headquarters, Narayanpur superintendent of police Mayank Srivastava told PTI.
As the police team reached the forest area between Jatwar and Karkabeda today, the naxalites opened fire at them, he said.
In retaliation, police also fired at the ultras who fled the spot.
Later, while inspecting the area, police found a naxal camp. Four loaded guns, a country made pistol, live cartridges, explosives and other items were recovered from the camp, the SP said.
The police team then destroyed the camp and launched a hunt for the naxalites, he added.
