Maoist landmine blast in Yerkad village injures five policemen

As many as five policemen were injured, two of them seriously, in a landmine blast triggered off by Maoists in Yerkad village in Dhanora taluka this afternoon, police said here today.

A police patrol was returning to its post at around 5 pm today when the Maoists triggered off a landmine blast near the police post situated on the Yerkad-Murumgaon road, which injured at least five policemen, the police said.

Two policemen namely Chetan Salve and Nitesh Bhandekar received serious injuries after which they were shifted to Nagpur for medical treatment.

The police post is situated merely about 100 metres away from Yerkad village.
 

Anti-Maoist operations have been intensified in the area after the landmine blast, the police added.
