Maoist squad member held

An activist of CPI (Maoists) was arrested and arms and ammunition found in his possession from Karampada in Naxal-hit West Singhbhum district, a senior police officer today said.

Acting on tip off, the district police force launched a search operation last night and arrested Pradhan Hembram alias Dondo Hembram from Karaita Rail bridge near Mirchygudda village, Superintendent of Police, N K Singh said.

Singh said a country-made pistol, two live rounds of cartridge, three mobile phone sets and a dairy was seized from his possession.

Hembram, stated to be a member of 'Sandeep da' alias Motilal Soren squad, was wanted in several Maoist-related incidents and was named accused in three cases in Goilkera (West Singhbhum), Bandamunda and Kebland police stations in adjoining Odisha, he said.
 

The ultra was named accused in the killing of Jaipal Purty, who had been dragged out of his house and shot dead in Kuira village in the district.

He was also an accused in a blast that claimed nine lives in Keblang police station of Odisha few years ago.
