One of the five Maoists lodged in Central jail here, is likely to be produced at a court in Kodagu district of Karnataka in connection with a case there, police said today.
Roopesh, considered to be a front ranking Maoist leader in South India, was arrested along with four others, including his wife Shyna from Karumathampatti near here on May 4 and after 10 days police custody was lodged in the jail here in judicial custody.
Since there was a case against Roopesh at Ponnampet in Kodagu district in 2013, police, who were searching for him, wanted jail authorities to issue a transit warrant for producing him in court by May 18, police said.
Authorities have given their consent for taking him to Karnataka based on which he is expected to be taken by tonight, they said.
Besides, Kerala police also wanted to produce Roopesh in a local court there on May 20, in connection with some 20 cases and got sanction from jail officials, they said.
Meanwhile, the lawyers, representing him and other Maoists, and members of PUCL, have sought adequate security and protection to the life of Roopesh.
