On a tip-off that self-styled Maoist area commander Prabil Ganjhu alias Palamau'da had opened a ration shop at Ladgaon under Sikidri police station of Ranchi district, the police of the two districts nabbed him yesterday, SP (Hazaribagh) Manoj Kaushik, told reporters today.

The arrested Maoist was allegedly involved in 35 cases, including killing over a dozen villagers and police personnel in Hazaribagh and Chatra districts since 2005, the SP said.

During interrogation, Ganjhu said he had left the CPI (Maoist) three years ago, purchased a piece of land and constructed the 'house-cum-shop' at Ladgaon with the Rs 60,000 extortion money collected by the CPI-(Maoist) he fled with, the SP said, adding, the police were verifying his statement.
