A Maoist 'zonal commander' carrying a reward of Rs 10 lakh on his head has been arrested near Beluaghati in Giridih district, the police said today.

"Raj Kumar Yadav alias Kuanr Yadav alias Bashir was arrested yesterday in a joint operation by the district police and the CRPF," Superintendent of Police Kuldip Diwedi told reporters here.

Yadav is accused of Chilkari massacre of October 2007 in which former state chief minister Babulal Marandi's son Anup and 16 others were killed, the SP said.

The Maoist was also wanted in 23 other naxal-related cases, including a jail break incident, in Bihar's Jamui, Giridih and Koderma.

Three IEDs and five detonators were seized from him.

The SP said police had announced Rs 10 lakh on his head for his arrest and added that he would recommend more rewards for the personnel who were involved in the operation.
